Educator teaching in a classroom

About Simpler Math

Our Mission

Simpler Math was founded on a simple belief: Making mathematics more accessible, meaningful, and possible for every learner.

Mathematics is not difficult because students are incapable of learning it. Too often, students struggle because mathematical ideas are presented without enough connection, context, or support. The goal of Simpler Math is not to make mathematics easier. It is to make mathematics understandable.

We create instructional resources that help students build genuine mathematical understanding through clear explanations, visual representations, guided practice, and meaningful applications. Our goal is to help learners move beyond memorizing procedures and develop the confidence and reasoning skills they need to use mathematics thoughtfully and independently.

Simpler Math currently develops resources for mathematics education, including Real World Statistics: A Student's Guide to Understanding and Using Data, a complete instructional system designed to help students interpret data, reason with evidence, and apply statistical thinking to authentic questions.

The long-term vision of Simpler Math is to continue developing learning experiences that help students and educators experience mathematics not as a collection of procedures, but as a powerful way of understanding the world.

A connected support system for learning

Pat, Tara, and Gus together as part of the Simpler Math learning support system

Simpler Math brings together curriculum, instructional insight, and practical resources to support the people learning and teaching mathematics.

  • PatYour Pathway Math Coachworks with students.
  • TaraYour Teaching and Resource Assistantworks with teachers to build practice, plan lessons and units, and create classroom materials grounded in verified content.
  • GusYour Guide to Understanding & Supporting Math Learningworks with families.

Pat, Tara, and Gus use AI to make these resources more responsive and interactive, but they are grounded in the curriculum, instructional philosophy, and educational approach developed through Simpler Math. Tara's question banks are built and reviewed by educators — not generated on demand — so the materials she produces reflect the same standard of care as the rest of the Simpler Math curriculum.

Founded by an Educator

Nicole Hamilton

Mathematics Educator, 20+ Years Experience

Simpler Math was founded by Nicole Hamilton, a mathematics educator with more than 20 years of experience teaching mathematics and supporting teachers. Her experience as a classroom teacher, mathematics department leader, and school administrator shaped the company's approach to creating resources that are practical for teachers and meaningful for students.

Simpler Math grew from a desire to create the kinds of instructional resources that educators can use with confidence: clear enough to support understanding, rigorous enough to challenge learners, and thoughtfully designed to work together as part of a larger instructional experience.

As Simpler Math grows, the work continues to be informed by the experiences and perspectives of educators who use, contribute to, and help shape its resources.

How We Approach Math

Every resource is designed around a few core ideas:

Clear explanations matter.

Complex ideas become more approachable when students can see the connections between concepts, representations, and real-world meaning.

Support should lead to independence.

Students often need guidance before they can work confidently on their own. The purpose of support is to build capability, not dependence.

Meaning comes before memorization.

Students develop deeper understanding when they know why mathematical ideas matter and how they connect to problems beyond the classroom.

Accessibility and rigor belong together.

Making mathematics accessible does not mean lowering expectations. It means designing pathways that allow more learners to engage with challenging ideas.

Our Work

Simpler Math brings together mathematics resources designed to work together—from clear explanations and instructional videos to guided practice, authentic applications, and tools that support teachers and independent learners.

Our work includes:

  • The Math Companion Series, providing accessible, practical support for students across core mathematics courses.

  • A comprehensive video library covering middle and high school mathematics, with lessons designed to support students as they learn, practice, and review.

  • Real World Statistics: A Student's Guide to Understanding and Using Data, a complete instructional system that brings together a student text, videos, guided materials, datasets, investigations, enrichment, and teacher resources.

  • Tools that extend the Simpler Math approach in responsive ways — from working through problems with students to creating classroom resources for teachers to helping parents understand how best to support a student's mathematical growth.

We continue to develop new resources while maintaining the same goal: to help more learners understand challenging mathematical ideas, use mathematics with confidence, and see its relevance beyond the classroom.
